The English Greyhound Derby: A Spectacle of Speed & Excitement
The English Greyhound Derby is the crown jewel of British greyhound racing, boasting a rich history that dates back to 1927. Originally held at White City Stadium in London, the event has found a new home at Towcester Racecourse since 2021, proudly supported by Star Sports.
Legendary Winners & Trainers
Only four greyhounds have achieved the remarkable feat of winning the Derby twice: Mick the Miller, Patricias Hope, Rapid Ranger, and Westmead Hawk. Legendary trainer Charlie Lister OBE holds the record with seven Derby victories.
Last Year’s Champion
Last year, De Lahdedah claimed the title for Irish trainer Liam Dowling, etching his name on the prestigious roll of honour and pocketing a cool £175,000.
The Derby Festival
The Derby Festival spans nine dates over five weeks in May and June, culminating in the grand final on June 14, 2025, where the champion will be crowned. A total of 192 greyhounds from across the UK and Ireland will gather at Towcester, creating an unparalleled spectacle of racing. This event is a unique social and sporting occasion, celebrating some of the world’s finest canine athletes.
